Kathy Mulder appointed to the Order of Canada

Montréal, July 1, 2025 – On this very special 2025 Canada Day, the CHS could not be prouder as, yesterday, Kathy Mulder, a long-acting volunteer and health care provider for the Canadian bleeding disorder community, was appointed as Member of the Order of Canada.

The Order of Canada is the cornerstone of the Canadian Honours System. Becoming a Member of the Order of Canada (C.M.) signifies recognition for outstanding contributions to the nation. It’s a high-level honour awarded for exceptional achievement, dedication to the community, and service to Canada.

Kathy began her work in hemophilia care in Winnipeg, in 1974, where she first worked in the adult program and later transferred to the Children’s Hospital. Her experience and knowledge are vast. Kathy has contributed to many successful CHS projects and served as chair of the Canadian Physiotherapists in Hemophilia Care where she provided strong leadership and set a solid example, to which many aspire.

In a world where the majority of people with hemophilia in resource-challenged countries do not have access to replacement products, physiotherapy is especially important. Kathy worked relentlessly to teach patients and health care professionals, in Canada and around the world, how to manage bleeding, limit destruction of joints, and improve rehabilitation. She served on the World Federation of Hemophilia Musculoskeletal Committee for more than a decade.

Over many years Kathy has made outstanding contributions in Canada to the development of care and services for people with inherited bleeding disorders. Amongst her many achievements, she has collaborated in many publications and participated in many Canadian leadership positions within our community.

Kathy has been an invaluable volunteer, leader, and supporter of our community. Following her retirement, she has stayed connected and continues to contribute. We recognize that she is a world-renowned expert in her field and yet she continued to support her own patients with unwavering dedication.

This recognition is truly a testament of her incredible career and engagement within the global and Canadian bleeding disorder community.

Congratulations Kathy for a most-deserving recognition!
